Posted October 05, 2018 11:19:06 Alastayya Ahmed scored a century in his first Test match for New Zealand against Australia on Wednesday night.
While New Zealand did not win, Ahmed’s century gave him his first wicket in a Test match and also sealed his place in the All Blacks squad for the 2019 Rugby World Cup.
It was his first T20I century for New Zealand, a club that has produced a number of Test stars over the years.
The 19-year-old was a late replacement for Shaun Johnson and was a regular in the side, hitting seven hundreds, while also bowling five sixes.
He was also named in the team for the first time in their last World Cup campaign, where he became the first New Zealander to play 100 Test matches.
Alastayiya Ahmed’s Test career New Zealand won the first Test of the tournament with a five-wicket haul in Perth against the All Black All Blacks.
After the series, New Zealand’s coach Steve Hansen said: “Alastai has become a key member of the squad in the run-up to the 2019 World Cup and we’re thrilled that he will join us at the All Stars.”
New Zealand have won the last three Tests in Australia, but have only won once in the last seven Tests.
